What is Spider Veins Removal?

Vascular laser delivers light at a wavelength preferentially absorbed by haemoglobin inside the vessel. The absorbed energy heats and coagulates the vessel wall so it collapses and is gradually reabsorbed by the body, while the surrounding skin — which absorbs far less of that wavelength — is left intact.

Vascular laser is frequently paired with skin rejuvenation laser in Dubai for overall tone, and with anti-inflammatory skin protocols where redness and rosacea coexist — see all laser treatments in Dubai.

Why spider veins appear — and why Dubai accelerates them

Spider veins are dilated capillaries and venules sitting just below the skin surface. They develop through a combination of genetics, hormonal change, chronic sun exposure, prolonged standing and skin thinning with age. Once dilated, a vessel does not contract back on its own.

Dubai's UV load is the single most under-estimated factor for facial vessels. Cumulative sun exposure degrades the collagen scaffolding that supports capillary walls, which is why nasal and cheek telangiectasia are among the most common vascular complaints we see locally.

For leg veins, the clinical priority is different: our doctors first exclude underlying venous insufficiency. Treating surface spider veins while a deeper reflux problem persists produces disappointing results and rapid recurrence, so assessment comes before laser.

Where visible vessels sit alongside generalised flushing, the plan usually widens into a structured anti-inflammatory programme, because rosacea is a chronic condition that needs management, not a single procedure.

How vascular laser targets vessels selectively

The principle is selective photothermolysis: choose a wavelength that haemoglobin absorbs far more strongly than surrounding tissue, and a pulse duration matched to the vessel's size, so heat stays confined to the vessel and dissipates before it damages neighbouring skin.

Larger, deeper vessels need longer pulses and more energy; fine superficial capillaries need short, precise pulses. This is why a single fixed setting is inappropriate, and why vessel mapping precedes treatment.

Once coagulated, the vessel is no longer carrying blood. The body clears the collapsed vessel over the following weeks, which is why some vessels vanish instantly while others fade progressively over a month.

Face versus leg spider veins — different expectations

Facial vessels respond very well to laser. Many clear in one session, and the treated vessel does not return; new vessels may form elsewhere over years, which is why annual review is sensible.

Leg veins are more variable. They are under higher hydrostatic pressure, are often deeper, and frequently sit downstream of a larger feeding vein. More sessions are usually required, and results depend heavily on excluding and addressing any underlying reflux.

Compression, avoidance of prolonged standing after treatment and consistent sun protection all materially improve leg outcomes and are discussed as part of aftercare.

Aftercare and preventing new vessels

Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50 daily and avoid direct sun for two weeks after treatment. Skip saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and very hot showers for 48 hours — heat dilates vessels and prolongs redness.

Avoid vigorous exercise for 24 hours, and on legs, wear compression if your doctor advises it. Do not scrub or use acids on the treated area for several days.

Longer term, the practical prevention list is the same one that protects the rest of the skin: rigorous sun protection, moderating alcohol and very hot environments, and treating any underlying rosacea rather than only its visible vessels.

Expected results

Many vessels disappear immediately or within 2–4 weeks as they are reabsorbed. Most patients achieve clearance of treated vessels after 1–3 sessions.

Recovery timeline

  1. Immediately afterTreated vessels may disappear, darken or look slightly raised; mild redness around them.
  2. Hours 0–24Redness and warmth settle; normal activities and makeup resume.
  3. Day 2–7Any small bruising or scabbing resolves; vessels begin to fade.
  4. Week 2–4Reabsorption completes and clearance becomes fully visible.
  5. Week 4–6Review session for any residual or deeper vessels.
Maintenance schedule

Annual review; touch-up sessions as new vessels appear over time.

Number of sessions

A course of multiple sessions, spaced as advised by your doctor, is usually required to reach the planned outcome.

Suitable candidate

  • Visible facial thread veins or persistent nasal redness
  • Cherry angiomas and small vascular spots
  • Fine leg spider veins without underlying varicose disease
  • Rosacea patients with a visible vascular component

Not suitable for

  • Large varicose veins or untreated venous insufficiency — these need vascular assessment first
  • Active tan or recent significant sun exposure
  • Active infection or open skin in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy, and photosensitising medication unless reviewed by your doctor

Risks & side effects

Every medical procedure carries some risk. We discuss these fully at consultation so you can decide with confidence.

  • Transient redness and warmth for a few hours
  • Small bruising or purpura resolving over several days
  • Temporary swelling in delicate facial areas
  • Rare pinpoint scabbing that heals with aftercare
  • Rare temporary pigment change, particularly on legs or if sun exposure follows treatment

Combination treatments

Spider Veins Removal works well alongside the following treatments. Your doctor will recommend the right combination at consultation.

Doctor perspective

What Silk Clinics doctors commonly recommend

For isolated facial thread veins, our doctors typically recommend a single vascular laser session with review at 4–6 weeks, adding a second session only if residual vessels remain.

Where visible vessels accompany background redness, treatment is combined with anti-inflammatory skin support and, where tone is also a concern, rejuvenation laser.

For leg veins, venous assessment comes first; laser is offered for surface vessels once deeper disease has been excluded or addressed.

Frequently asked questions

How many spider vein removal sessions do I need in Dubai?
Most patients need 1–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Isolated facial vessels often clear in one session, while denser or leg vessels usually need more. Your doctor gives a realistic estimate after vascular mapping.
Is spider vein laser removal painful?
Discomfort is mild and brief — most patients describe a warm snap as each vessel is treated. Integrated cooling keeps the session comfortable, and topical numbing is available for sensitive areas.
Is there any downtime after vascular laser?
Mild redness for a few hours and occasionally small bruising for a few days. Normal activities and makeup resume the same or next day; avoid saunas, hot showers and vigorous exercise for 24–48 hours.
View more frequently asked questions (5)
Where can spider veins be treated?
Common areas include the cheeks, around the nose, the chin, chest, neck and legs. Cherry angiomas and other small vascular lesions can be treated in the same session.
Are the results permanent?
Treated vessels are closed permanently and do not reopen. However, genetics, sun exposure and hormonal factors can cause new vessels to form over time, so occasional maintenance sessions are common rather than a sign of failure.
Can leg spider veins always be treated with laser?
Surface leg spider veins respond well, but only after underlying venous insufficiency has been excluded. If a larger feeding vein is the source, treating the surface alone gives poor and short-lived results, so assessment comes first.
Is vascular laser safe for darker skin tones?
Yes, with appropriate wavelength and settings selected by a qualified doctor. Because darker skin carries a higher risk of temporary pigment change, we adjust parameters conservatively and emphasise strict sun protection afterwards.
How much does spider vein removal cost in Dubai?
Pricing depends on the number, size and location of vessels and how many sessions are needed. Vascular laser is often combined with skin rejuvenation laser at Silk Clinics in Dubai — a full transparent quote is given at consultation.
